Understand the choices
A sewing space needs a solid table, useful light and enough clear surface for the fabric to feed without dragging. It does not need a dedicated craft room. A repeatable setup on a dining table can be better than a cramped permanent desk.
Stability before storage tricks
The table should resist side-to-side movement as the machine accelerates. Check knee room, foot-pedal position and whether the machine’s rubber feet sit fully on the surface. A mat can reduce vibration, but it cannot make an unstable folding table rigid.
Light the needle and the wider task
Built-in LEDs illuminate the presser-foot area. Separate diffuse task lighting helps with dark thread, marking and checking the whole seam. Position cables away from feet and routes through the room, and avoid a lamp that forces fabric into a narrow channel.
If the machine is packed away, store it upright, covered and dry. Keep the pedal and lead with it, and make the first tools—scissors, seam ripper, needles and bobbins—easy to lift out as one small kit.
