Machine & Thread is an independent UK guide to home sewing machines, overlockers, embroidery equipment and the small parts that help them work properly.

Our approach

We start with the sewing job. Product pages, manuals, recognised safety guidance and current UK retailer information are used to compare the controls and compatibility that change the result at the fabric. Each recommendation should name both a useful fit and a meaningful limit.

The site does not accept a manufacturer’s feature list as a verdict. A faster machine is not automatically easier to learn; more stitches do not compensate for poor control; and “heavy duty” does not turn a domestic machine into industrial equipment.
